By Andy & Laura Wright
Materials:
Pine (or any type) Board: minimum 3’ long, 7-1/2” wide, ¾” thick. (2 benches from an 8’ board.)
Four 1-1/2” screws
Saw, drill, router or chisel
Sandpaper
Stain and Finish if desired
Directions
- Cut board into appropriate pieces:
Seat measurements
17-3/4” long, 7-1/2” wide
Leg measurements
7-1/2” at top, 7-1/8” back, 6-1/8” front, the bottom measurement will take care of itself.
- Cut recessed groves on bottom of seat for legs, appx. 3/8” deep, 1 inch from each end. Without the right tools this is the hardest part. You can use a back saw and chisel, multiple passes with a circular saw, a router, a table saw, or radial arm saw.
- Sand the individual pieces.
- Place legs in groves. The square end cut goes in the grooves; the diagonal cut goes on the floor.
- Drill holes for screws: appx. 1.25 inches from each side, centered over the legs. The holes should be slightly smaller than the shaft of the screw.
- Screw legs into seat.
- Finish if desired.
- Sit!
